About Me: Professionally

Blending Art and Design

I’m Kayla — a Senior UI/UX Designer with a huge love for concept art and game design. I grew up playing games from before my time — like Metroid on the Atari — which came out almost a decade before I was born! I had my hands on every console and every game I could. When I was thirteen, I saved enough money to buy a PS3, the newest console on the market, and from there my obsession with game art, mechanics, and storytelling really took off. I wasn’t just playing games — I was studying them, sketching characters, and imagining new worlds.

By day, I work at Microsoft designing user-friendly apps and AI tools, building sleek interfaces for the gaming, modeling, and simulation team, and creating storyboards to connect with customers. But when I'm not doing that, I'm sketching creatures, dreaming up fantasy worlds, and thinking about how design can shape player experiences.

Now, I’m focused on merging these two worlds — using my UI/UX skills to create game interfaces that feel smooth and immersive, and bringing creatures and environments to life through concept art.

About Me: Personally

Keeping Busy…Very Busy

You can currently find me in Washington, D.C., where I live with my partner, two cats (one is orange, so I know how to handle insanity), and a dog. I’m the kind of person who’s always chasing a new skill or hobby — creating concept art, learning new design tools, running half marathons, skiing, kayaking, archery, reading… you name it.

But the most important thing to know is that my dream is to work at a video game studio abroad. It’s a goal I’m dedicated to, and I’ll continue to work hard to make it happen.
